FAQ
Answers about project storage, privacy, exports, and creation types.
Ai And Privacy
Can GenStory.cc use a custom AI API?If the current settings support an OpenAI-compatible endpoint, you can configure your own service. Check browser-side requests, CORS, key exposure, cost, and the provider’s data rules before use.Can I use GenStory.cc without AI?Yes. You can manually create, edit, organize, and export books, pages, scripts, assets, and code. AI should not be required to open, edit, or back up a local project.Does GenStory.cc upload my work?Opening or creating a local project does not automatically upload it to GenStory.cc. When you deliberately use AI, image or video generation, a custom API, or cloud sync, the data required for that action may be sent to the selected third party. Is GenStory.cc an AI story generator?GenStory.cc is more than a one-click generator. It is a browser-based workspace for chapters, pages, characters, storyboards, assets, and export structures; AI is an optional assistant.
Creation Types
Can GenStory.cc generate finished comic pages directly? With an image-generation service, it can help generate comic images. A reliable workflow still starts with character and location references, page layouts, panel directions, and reserved dialogue space, followed by page-by-page review. Can AI generate a complete picture book in one pass?AI can assist with the story, page text, and illustrations, but one-pass generation rarely preserves age fit, pacing, character appearance, and text accuracy. Build it in stages and review every page. Can I change a project directly from one creation type to another?Do not assume lossless conversion. Each type has a different structure and runtime goal. Create a new project of the target type, then migrate reusable characters, world rules, outlines, and assets. How does GenStory.cc relate to WebGAL and OpenWebGal?GenStory.cc organizes the editable project, script, and assets in the browser and prepares exports. OpenWebGal is a target format and runtime environment for the resulting visual novel. How should I choose between a book, picture book, comic, visual novel, interactive video, and game?Choose by final form: long text for a book; page-by-page text and images for a picture book; panel storytelling for a comic; dialogue, sprites, and choices for a visual novel; video nodes for interactive video; and continuous player input for a game. When should I use text-to-video versus image-to-video?Use text-to-video to explore new shots and environments. Use image-to-video when a character, composition, or keyframe must remain recognizable. Sequential stories commonly combine both.
Export And Publishing
Can an exported GenStory.cc project be reimported?A source-project backup should be reimportable. A runtime or publishing bundle may omit editor-specific structure, so do not treat it as the only backup. What is the difference between a project backup and a publishing export?A source-project ZIP is intended for reimporting and continued editing. A publishing export is intended to run or deploy the finished work and may not preserve the editor’s source structure. How do I publish a Phaser game exported from GenStory.cc?If the export contains HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and static assets, deploy it to a static hosting service. Preview it through a local static server first and verify asset paths, input, audio, and first load.
Projects
How do I move a GenStory.cc project to another device?Export a source-project ZIP on the original device, then import it on the new device. A personal cloud drive can transport the file, but keep an independent backup until the import is verified.Does Google Drive sync happen automatically? No. The local browser copy remains primary unless you authorize Drive and explicitly run a sync operation. Confirm which copy is newer before restoring or overwriting anything.Where are GenStory.cc projects stored?Projects are stored in the current browser on the current device by default. Project records and larger assets may use IndexedDB and OPFS. Creating a project does not by itself upload it to a GenStory.cc server. Will clearing browser data delete GenStory.cc projects? It can. Clearing site data for genstory.cc, including IndexedDB or OPFS, may remove local projects. Private-browsing windows are also unsuitable for long-term storage.
